I was really looking forward to this installment of Precious Metal because not only was I the DJ this evening, but Curran had an excellent lineup scheduled, including underground death metal favs, Animals Killing People! I caught Pyrrhon just a few weeks earlier in the basement and these guys served it up once again with some solid death metal. If they added another guitar player I think this crew would be well on their way to being another big NYC band, a la Malignancy. Speaking of Malignancy, Danny was in the crowd tonite along with the head of Sevared Records, and Anita, a supercool metal promoter from Slomberlain Productions (she was responsible for booking the Brutal Truth and Misery Index shows last year, both of which I covered), so that was a bonus. Animals Killing People were THE most brutal band I've watched at Lit, and grinded their way through several slabs off their debut LP, 'Kentucky Fried Killing'. The singer's horrific gurgling coupled with the way his eyes got really small and his eyeballs rolled up to the top of his head left a lasting impression...these guys were fucking sick. Abdicate was new to me, but these boys from Rochester tore it up. I chatted with guitarist Lewis after their set and hooked him up with pictures from the show for their myspace page. New Jersey's Binary Code rounded out another great Precious Metal event, and they did not disappoint...the guitar player is a pretty big boy, and he flat out shreds and handles his axe like a toy. I had a great time DJing at the show, so thanks to Curran for having me, Ryan for hooking up the sound and Jesse from Binary Code for doing the flyer.
